Three months have passed since the fast food restaurant Big Plate (123 Hill St, Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia 10350) opened in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, a suburb of Colombo.

It is the second outlet following the main restaurant in Kollupitiya in Colombo 3. As the name suggests, large portions of food are served on large plates. In addition to typical hamburgers and submarine sandwiches, it offers “100% Halal” Asian fast food, including Thai, Arab, Indian, Sri Lankan, and Chinese.

The menu includes Big Plate Tower Burger piled high with chicken, bacon, cheese, eggs, and other ingredients; Kottu, a traditional Sri Lankan dish; Shawarma, a popular Middle Eastern meat dish; Seafood Mongolian Noodles; and Tandoori Chicken Sandwich. Prices start from 499 rupees. The drink lineup features South Indian milk-based drink Jigarthanda, milkshakes, and non-alcoholic cocktails such as Blue Curacao and Shirley Red Temple.

The Kollupitiya branch recently welcomed a new Indian chef and is strengthening its Indian menu. Both outlets accept delivery, and orders can also be placed through Uber Eats and Pick Me Foods.

Opening hours: 11:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
