Six months have passed since MAQARA (07 Canal Row Road, Colombo 01), a fusion kitchen and coffee house, opened in Colombo’s Fort District.

The restaurant offers California-style Chinese cuisine conceptualized by a 2-time Michelin Star Chef. With an eye to the busy lifestyles of customers, the restaurant aims to serve food in seven minutes. It is located next to the Dutch Hospital shopping precinct and has a dine-in space featuring table and counter seating.

MAQARA offers three flavors to choose from: Ruby Tart, a sweet and sour Cantonese-style classic; Five Spice Curry, San Francisco’s Little India meets Chinatown with their aromatic and tasty take on curry; and Pow Pow, an Americanized Sichuan classic. The mains include rice, noodles, and greens, with a lineup of ingredients such as chicken, prawns, and tofu. Prices range from 1,300 to 1,900 rupees. Drink menu centers on coffee, including cappuccino, cafe latte, and espresso. Chilled coffee is also available in flavors such as almond, caramel, and coconut.

Takeout and delivery are also available, using eco-friendly containers made from sugarcane husks. The restaurant also accepts orders through Uber Eats and PickMe Foods.

Opening hours: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (until 11:00 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays).
