Barefoot Gallery (704, Galle Road, Colombo 03, TEL +94 770 255 470), a contemporary art gallery in Colombo 03, is currently holding “Mycelium,” a solo exhibition by abstract artist Tamarra Jayasundera.

Jayasundera creates her works using a unique technique that combines ink, acrylic, and sculpture with oxidized metal sheets such as copper, brass, and steel. She has exhibited her works in a number of group exhibitions in Sri Lanka.

At the exhibition, opened on October 21, Jayasundera presents works on the theme “Mycelium.” For the “Mushroom of Rapture” series, she folded and pleated copper sheets to express mushroom gills. The mycelium, which breaks down all organic matter and returns it to the soil, is a symbol of resilience for Jayasundera. “This collection marks the expression of the cycle of life, death and rebirth,” she explains.

In addition to her work in the art field, Jayasundera is also active as a meditation instructor. She holds a Vipassana meditation class at the gallery every Wednesday, focusing on self-observation.

Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Closed Sundays. The “Mycelium” will run until November 13.
