Smoked Mozzarella from Maia Cheese
Maia Cheese, specializing in cheese based in Matale, Central Province of Sri Lanka, opened its flagship store at the Hotel Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo (115, Sir Chittampalam A Gardiner Mawatha, 02 Colombo) on October 29.
The company, which manufactures and distributes handmade cheese, was founded in 2005 by CEO and cheesemaker Maia Donadze in Goa, India, and now has a manufacturing facility in Madipola, Matale District. It produces approximately 20 types, focusing on natural cheese from raw milk, fermented and matured. The new store has a natural feel with white as its base color. The display cases are lined with cheese cut and vacuum-packed into 200-gram portions.
The company mainly offers types of cheese that are popular in Europe. Among the available products are Cheddar, a well-known English cheese; Mozzarella, known for its soft, moist texture; Halloumi, originally from Cyprus; Caciocavallo, shaped like a gourd; Brie, a mild-tasting white mold cheese; Queen Blue, ripened with blue mold; and cheese made from goat’s milk such as cream cheese with herbs and Feta. The lineup includes a variety of cheese with different textures and flavors. In addition to cheese, the company also offers unsalted, salted, and garlic-infused butter.
Maia Cheese products are available at GLOMARK, retail stores, and its online store.
