November 26 marks one month since the opening of ISSO (1124/3 Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte), a restaurant specializing in prawn dishes, in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the capital of Sri Lanka.

Realizing “many individuals are crazy for prawns,” a group of friends founded ISSO in 2016. ISSO opened its first restaurant in Colombo 03, and the new outlet, which opened last month, is its third. The name is derived from the Sinhalese word “Isso,” meaning “prawn.” Under the tagline “Prawn Crazy,” the restaurant focuses on serving dishes featuring Sri Lankan shrimps and prawns.

The newest branch, which uses recycled and refurbished shipping containers, has a distinctive design with large windows and blue, yellow, and orange accent colors. They created the spacious dine-in area to be airy and pleasant. With indoor seating, terrace seating, and private rooms for groups, it can accommodate 60 people.

The prawn-based menu includes spring rolls, tempura, pasta, fried rice, and the ISSO Burger with prawns and egg. The menu also features Kottu with a choice of crab or prawn, grilled crab, biryani, Sri Lankan noodle soup Laksa, corn soup with crab, fish and chips, and others, priced from 795 to 8,195 rupees. A kids’ menu is also available.

The combo menu allows customers to choose any combination of ingredients, prawn size, flavor, and sides, such as rice and fries. Seven different styles are available, including Sichuan-based Last Dragon, Singaporean-style Eastern Spice, Thai red curry Rich & Red, and Sri Lankan Local Favorite.

In addition to dining in, the restaurant also offers takeout and delivery, and accepts orders via Uber Eats and PickMe Food.

Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
