The ZeroPlastic National Movement, a Sri Lankan non-governmental, non-profit organization working to create a plastic pollution-free environment, is now calling for entries for the ZeroPlastic Excellence Awards 2023.

The ZeroPlastic Excellence Awards 2023, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka, were launched on November 17 at the Tourism Expo 2022 in Colombo. Awards will be given in 12 categories, including Events & Festivals, Community, Innovation & Design, and Youth Activist, to name a few. Judging criteria will include Originality & Innovation, Impact, Engagement, Personality & Communication, and Inclusivity. It is open to individuals, schools, hotels, corporations, media, and others.

The organization has been working to reduce plastic waste and usage in Sri Lanka to realize a sustainable and eco-friendly society. It promotes the “3Rs,” the acronym for “Reduce,” “Reuse,” and “Recycle,” and has been involved in beach and river cleanups, the introduction of plastic alternatives produced by local companies, the organization of seminars and panel discussions on zero-plastic living, and other activities.

The deadline for applications is December 10. The awards will be presented at a presentation ceremony to be held at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo on January 20, 2023.
