An exhibition titled “Fareed Uduman’s Paintings, Cartoons, and Poems” is currently being held at the Sky Gallery (65/9 Kirula Rd, Colombo 05) in Colombo 05, showcasing the works of the late artist Fareed Uduman.

The gallery, also known as the Sky Gallery – Fareed Uduman ArtForum, was established last December by Jomo, Fareed’s son, to create a permanent space to preserve and exhibit his father’s artwork collection. Located on the rooftop of a three-story building, the vibrant gallery features an exterior painted in orange, blue, yellow, and other colors, reached by ascending an outdoor staircase. The interior is designed with simplicity, characterized by white corrugated walls and bare concrete floors. The gallery also serves as an art forum, providing a platform for emerging artists to showcase their works.

The exhibition primarily focuses on Fareed’s distinctive oil paintings created on various materials, such as hardboards and plywood. Many of the exhibited pieces have been retrieved, restored, and titled by Jomo over the years. The show also includes works from Fareed’s period as a satirical cartoonist and introduces ten poems that offer glimpses into his personal life.

Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Closed Saturdays and Sundays. The closing date of the exhibition is yet to be determined.
