Work on display at the exhibition “Fragmented”

Abstract artist Thabendran Krishnapriya’s solo exhibition “Fragmented” is currently on view at Barefoot Gallery (Galle Road, Colombo 04), a contemporary art gallery in Bambalapitiya, Colombo.

Krishnapriya, based in Jaffna, the northernmost city of Sri Lanka, obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Jaffna and a Master’s degree in Art and Design from Beaconhouse National University in Lahore, Pakistan. She approaches her artwork with inspiration drawn from her childhood experiences of the war and personal loss, continuously exploring the connection and sense of happiness with her lost mother through artistic expression.

She also cites Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama as an inspiration. In 2016, she presented her artwork for the first time overseas in Japan and has since exhibited her works in solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally.

In the exhibition “Fragmented,” which aims to explore the depths of human experience, Krishnapriya showcases works depicting organic forms reminiscent of microorganisms and cells, created with acrylic paint and pen. Regarding her exhibited works, Krishnapriya explains that she has created cells, tissues, and membranes one by one, and mentions that cells have their own energy, and through cells, she can feel a mother’s love.

The exhibition is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will run until July 23. Closed on Sundays.
