Colombo’s seafood restaurant, Ministry of Crab, was selected as one of this year’s “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants,” which was announced on March 25.

The “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” is the Asian version of the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants,” published by the British media company William Reed Business Media, and was launched in 2013. Ministry of Crab has been ranked one of the top restaurants since 2015, and this year marks the seventh consecutive year. The restaurant is the only one from Sri Lanka to be included in the top 50, and it has also been chosen as the “Best Restaurant in Sri Lanka”.

The signature item on the menu is the mud crab caught in the Sri Lankan lagoon that day, which is available in 16 sizes ranging from 500 grams (Rs. 6,100) to 2 kilos (Rs. 39,400). Diners can choose from five different seasoning options: Pepper Crab, Chili Crab, Curry Crab, Garlic Chili Crab, and Butter Crab.

Kumar Sangakkara, one of the co-owners and the former captain of the Sri Lankan national cricket team, said, “When we started the restaurant, the idea was to serve the best ingredients from Sri Lanka in the freshest form. It is a great honor to be selected once again as one of the 50 best restaurants in Asia. I think it shows that Sri Lanka can be appreciated on an international level.”

Opening hours: noon – 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
