It has been almost nine months since POT Kottu, a takeout and delivery restaurant offering classic Sri Lankan food, opened its doors in Boralesgamuwa, a suburb of Colombo.
The restaurant opened on December 5 last year. Dumendra Janaka Rupasinghe, the owner, wanted to further develop his business and decided to start a takeout and delivery service for traditional Sri Lankan dishes.
Its core dish is kottu, which comes in about 13 varieties, and each dish is served with a fried egg and chili paste on top. The kottu menu includes Chicken Kottu (Rs.580), Chicken and Sausage Kottu (Rs.695), and Vegetable Kottu (Rs.410) for vegetarians. Besides kottu, it also offers fried rice and noodles such as Sri Lankan Spicy Biryani and Chicken Sausage Noodles, priced from 410 rupees to 685 rupees.
All the food is served in clay pots. “You don’t have to return the clay pots. You can use them for cooking at home,” said Dumendra. “We buy handmade ones from Panduwasnuwara and have distributed about 15,000 to 20,000 so far.”
POT Kottu takes orders via Pick Me Food, Uber Eats, or by phone.
Opening hours: 11:45 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
