Three months have passed since Nepali Resto, a cloud kitchen offering Nepali dishes, opened in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the administrative capital of Sri Lanka.

The business opened on August 23. Under the slogan “Taste of Nepal,” Lahiru Wijesinghe runs the shop with his Nepali wife, a chef. “It was my wife’s idea to open Nepali Resto,” said Wijesinghe, “Many Nepalis live in Sri Lanka, but there are few places where they can taste the food of their homeland. We decided to open a place targeting the Nepali community.”

The menu includes Pani Puri, a popular street food; Pakoras, savory fried flitters; and Chicken Korma, a mild creamy curry, priced from 300 rupees to 800 rupees. It also offers seven kinds of Paratha, traditional flatbread, including Egg & Onion (Rs.180), Aloo Masala (Rs.200), and Chili Paneer (Rs.230).

It added Momo, a type of steamed dumpling, to the menu at the beginning of this month and plans to launch Pulau Biriyani Rice next month. At the moment, Nepali Resto operates as a cloud kitchen, but the couple is thinking of opening a restaurant in the future. Wijesinghe added: “We use original Nepali ingredients, and all the food is prepared by ourselves. We hope many people will enjoy the taste of authentic Napali dishes.”

Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Closed on Mondays. Orders can be placed by phone or through Uber Eats.
