Design Edit Concept Store opens in Colombo suburb, offering local handcrafted products
Inside the store
Two months have passed since Design Edit Concept Store, a store dealing in interior design products, opened in Mount Lavinia, a suburb of Colombo.
The store opened on September 21. It is run by Design Edit, an interior design company based in the same area. “There is a good demand for interior design in the market. We decided to open it as a one-stop shop to fulfill everyone’s interior needs,” said Ronela Edirisinghe, one of the co-founders. The store offers handcrafted and locally sourced items, ranging from cushions, antiques to custom-crafted furniture. She said that they “meticulously curated local craftsmanship and colors” when selecting items.
The store, which also serves as a design studio, covers an area of 1,000 square meters. The floor is laid with terracotta tiles and old bricks to create an atmosphere “with a hint of the Mediterranean countryside while paying homage to the beautiful ‘walawwas’ of yesteryear.”
The items available at the store include batik table runners (Rs.3,600), cushion covers (Rs.1,100 to Rs.2,750), wooden-based table lamps (Rs.13,500), and others such as large wooden items, fabric items, nautical items, and flower arrangements.
Edirisinghe added: “It is a space housing an array of handcrafted and locally sourced pieces. We will think of something new in terms of the amount of space in our store. We also want to improve our design side.”
Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
