Convenience store offering imported foods, fresh flowers opens in Colombo
Inside The Gourmet Boutique
Two months have passed since The Gourmet Boutique, a convenience store offering imported foods and fresh flowers, opened in Kollupitiya, Colombo 3.
Ashraff Cassim, who has run the business on a small scale for the past eight years, opened the store on October 23 to “offer products to suit Sri Lankan taste buds, with the convenience of purchasing products that could only be found overseas right off shelves.” Cassim says, “Our shop’s main uniqueness is it is a homely calm place, and we have some special products that you can’t see and buy from other supermarkets.”
The store features products such as coffee, homemade pasta, and cheese, focusing on “sustainable brands,” directly sourced from North America, Europe, and Australia. The store also has partnerships with specialty stores in Sri Lanka, selling organic fruits and vegetables from Mango Friends and Italian-style gelato from Isle of Gelato. The fresh flowers lined up in the store are imported from India, China, and the Netherlands.
The store also uses eco-friendly materials for trays and bags and is committed to being eco-conscious. Cassim added: “I have an idea to hold a mega event with other small business people around us. In the future, I’m thinking about opening a café with the shop.”
Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., until 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.
