On January 14, Hola Bonjour (Tel: 076 545 4074), a cloud kitchen offering South American and French snacks, opened Mount Lavinia, a suburb of Colombo.

Hola Bonjour operates through delivery apps. Chef Lucas Francois, who has years of experience in a Michelin-starred restaurant in the South of France, and a group of his friends started the business. The name is a combination of the Spanish word “Hola” and the French word “Bonjour,” both meaning “Hello.” It reflects the multicultural nature of the team and the desire to make the cuisine as welcoming as the name suggests.

Its two core menu items are Croque Monsieur, a hot sandwich that originated in France, and Empanada, a pastry turnover with a savory filling that has its roots in Spain. They say that they have adapted the traditional dishes of France, Spain, and South America with the tastes of Sri Lanka.

The selection of Croque Monsieur with homemade béchamel and melted cheese includes: Monsieur Croque with ham (Rs.935); Monsieur Beef with slow-cooked beef (Rs.935); Monsieur Chicken with red pepper chicken (Rs.910); and Cheezy Monsieur with local farm goat cheese (Rs.1,065). With the Croque Madame option (Rs.100), any of the above croque monsieur can be topped with a fried egg.

Empanadas, a buttery dough filled with homemade stuffing, are available in packs of three. The lineup includes: Beef (Rs.720), filled with slow-cooked beef marinated in the homemade spice mix; Chicken (Rs.690), featuring Spanish-style chicken; Wild Mushroom (Rs.665), wild mushrooms with almonds; and Tomato & Mozzarella (Rs.690), tomatoes with herbs and fresh mozzarella. Desserts, such as chocolate mousse and Brazilian-style lemon cheesecake, are also available.

Opening hours: 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. It accepts orders through PickMe and Uber Eats.
