Solo exhibition ‘Hammer and Nails’ opens in Colombo, themed on Creation and Destruction

The exhibition “Hammer and Nails”

The contemporary art gallery Barefoot Gallery (704, Galle Road, Colombo 3, TEL +94 770 255 470) in Colombo 3 is currently hosting visual artist Anusha Gajaweera’s solo exhibition “Hammer and Nails.”

Gajaweera graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts (Special) from University of Visual & Performing Arts in Colombo in 2008 and Master of Arts from University of Kelaniya in 2012. He has been working as a university lecturer in visual art and as an art director for television and film. He also curates art exhibitions and organizes art workshops. As an artist, he has participated in art exhibitions in Sri Lanka and abroad, including in India, Japan, and New York. This is Gajaweera’s first solo exhibition at Barefoot Gallery.

The general theme of his artworks centers around social, political, and institutional power in Sri Lanka, which brings forth the power struggle visible in social strata. The exhibition features mixed media works inspired by hammers and nails, expressing “how everyday tools are both instruments of creation while also being weapons of destruction.”

Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.. Closed Sundays. The exhibition will run until July 5.
